Balancing pH Levels

When running a healthy aquaponics system the nitrogen cycle produces an acid as it processes the ammonia to nitrite and finally nitrate. This continually lowers the ph in your aquaponics system and need to be buffered back up to the desirable levels in both the aquaculture filters and plant biological filters.

A great product to use for this is dolomite as it contains both calcium and magnesium – both essential elements for fish and plant health.

Make sure you raise the ph in the fish water slowly no more than .5 points per day.  In an optimized Green Evolutions Aquaponics system you can raise or lower the plants ph as quickly as you need without harm.
